FAQ

  • What is Royalty Free Music? (aka Stock Music)
Royalty free music (aka stock music) refers to a type of music license that allows the buyer to pay the music license ONLY ONCE and use the music for as long as he wants. For example, imagine that you buy a royalty-free music license for a video that you are going to upload to your Youtube channel.
  • Is royalty free music copyright / rights free?
Absolutely not. Royalty free is the licensing option made specifically for copyrighted material. There is no need for a license if you use public domain, no copyright music.
  • How am I allowed to use the music I license from Studio 66?

Yes. The license permits usage of the music in a personal or professional context for yourself, your clients or your employer. Studio 66 music may not be sold by itself, transferred, bartered, traded, shared, leased, or given away to any other party and the license may not be subleased to a third party. Our music cannot be resold except to the extent that is embedded in your own work as part of a finished end product. You may not market the music as your own even if you add other instruments or a voice to the music. You may not sing over the music and sell or distribute the song. The above also applies to any music Studio 66 may offer free of charge on our website, including watermarked previews. Please see the Limitations of Use section of our pricing page for further information. If you are unsure whether the usage you are entertaining falls under our limitations of use, please contact us.
  • What is a PRO?
Did you know that, after your project is completed and turned in for broadcast, the music it contains will be monitored by music performance rights organizations (PROs)? PROs are music rights management organizations who have existing agreements with TV networks, radio stations, and other public broadcasters. In the United States, they’re known as ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC; in the UK, PRS; in Canada, SOCAN; and so on. Broadcasting stations are obligated to report to PROs all the music used in their content. Based on this information, PROs will remunerate artists based on how often their music is played.
  • What are public performance rights and cue sheets?
To ensure that our composers are compensated by the relevant Performing Rights Organisations (PRO), cue sheets must be completed for productions that are publicly broadcast, such as TV, radio, film and theatrical productions and advertisements. For more information please see our PRO page dedicated to cue sheets. If you are unsure whether your project falls under the scope of public performance, please contact your local Performance Rights Organization (PRO).
  • How do I report the music used in my project?
Music is reported in a cue sheet, which contains details for all the music used in an audio or audiovisual production dedicated for public broadcast. All composer and publisher information for our music is available on demand at info@studio66sa.com. Simply provide us with the title(s) of the music track(s) used and we will supply you with the necessary cue sheet information.
